In Quietly, a woman turns her head aside with her eyes closed as a white dove lands on top of her head, wings fully outstretched. Her bare shoulders and neck are drawn in deep blacks against a clean white ground.
At 120 cm the face is larger than life, and Ritchelly Oliveira’s charcoal, uncanny at smaller sizes, becomes something to stand in front of rather than examine. The dove, a constant of his vocabulary, rests on the figure like a held breath, and the lower edge of the body dissolves into the canvas.
Unique work, charcoal and acrylic on canvas, 120 × 80 cm (47.2 × 31.5 in). Born in Brazil in 1993 and trained in Visual Arts at the Federal University of Goiás, Ritchelly Oliveira has worked with the human figure since 2012. His work has been exhibited in Goiânia, Berlin, Miami, New York and Los Angeles, including the solo exhibition Fragility at La Brea Studio in 2023, and has appeared in international art publications such as Beautiful Bizarre.
