From our 300 m² gallery in Porto’s art district, we source paintings and sculptures worldwide, structure art leasing for businesses and run every transaction under European anti-money-laundering rules. Clean money, clean provenance, clear advice.

Who we advise

  • Private collectors and family offices. Discreet, long-term guidance for significant acquisitions, collection strategy and succession planning. Prices on request; every exchange stays confidential.
  • Companies and corporate collections. Works selected for headquarters, hotels, law firms and boardrooms, taking into account scale, light and the identity you want the space to carry.
  • Liberal professions. Doctors, lawyers, architects and consultants who want original works in their practice, with leasing as an alternative to outright purchase.
  • Public institutions, museums and foundations. We locate, negotiate and deliver works for public and institutional collections, with full provenance and export documentation.

Sourcing paintings and sculptures worldwide

Looking for a specific artist, period or format? We find it. Tilsitt Gallery works with an international network of auction houses, artists’ studios, estates, curators and fellow galleries across Europe, Asia and the Americas, and represents artists such as Shim Moon Seup, SEEN and Valay Shende. For each work we coordinate condition reports, provenance research and independent expertise, then handle export licences, insurance, museum-grade packing, shipping and installation.

You see the work before you commit: private viewings in Porto, or detailed photographs, exact dimensions and video presentations if you live abroad.

Art leasing for companies and professionals

Art leasing lets a company or professional practice bring original works into its premises without immobilising capital: a fixed monthly rent over an agreed term, with the option to buy the work at the end. In many jurisdictions the rent is treated as an operating expense; your accountant confirms what applies to you. We select the works, draw up the contract with our leasing partner and install the pieces.

How we work

  1. A conversation. What you love, where the works will live, the budget and the timeline.
  2. A shortlist. A selection of paintings, works on paper and sculptures, each with a dossier: biography, exhibition history, provenance, condition and price.
  3. Due diligence. Identity and source-of-funds verification (KYC), provenance and authenticity checks with independent experts.
  4. Acquisition and delivery. Negotiation, contract, insured transport and installation, in Portugal or anywhere in the world.
  5. Follow-up. Collection records, insurance valuations, conservation advice and, when the time comes, discreet resale.

Compliance: clear funds, clear provenance, clear conscience

Tilsitt Gallery is an obliged entity under Portugal’s anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing law (Lei n.º 83/2017, as amended by Lei n.º 58/2020, which transposes the European Union’s 5th AML Directive and brings art dealers into scope for any transaction of €10,000 or more). Our supervisory authority is ASAE, the Portuguese authority for the sector, whose Regulation n.º 1191/2022 sets the rules we apply and with which we work directly. In practice:

  • Every collector completes our KYC form before an acquisition: identity, beneficial owner and origin of funds. No exceptions, whatever the amount or the relationship.
  • No cash above the legal limits. Portuguese law caps cash payments at €3,000 (€10,000 for non-resident individuals); we accept payments only from the collector’s own account, by traceable means, never from third parties or opaque structures.
  • Full records of each transaction and each work’s provenance, kept for the seven years the law requires.
  • Suspicious transactions are reported to the DCIAP and the Portuguese Financial Intelligence Unit, as the law demands.
  • A written AML manual, a designated compliance officer and trained staff, as ASAE’s regulation requires; we are already aligned with the EU Anti-Money-Laundering Regulation that applies across Europe from July 2027.
  • We decline any transaction whose funds or counterparties cannot be verified.

This is not a formality. It protects our collectors, our artists and the value of the works we sell, and it keeps Tilsitt Gallery closed to anyone who would use art to launder money. Serious collectors expect it; we are proud to offer it.
