Criação da Fragilidade (The Making of Fragility) shows a seated boy in a white short-sleeved shirt and shorts, his hands resting on his knees, while a flock of dark birds swirls around his head and hides his face. The scene is set against a warm ochre-brown ground.
Ritchelly Oliveira often explores the long consequences of formative experiences, and here the birds, which he describes as allegorical signs of emotional wounds, gather precisely where a child’s face should be. The clothes and limbs are drawn in precise charcoal, while the birds scatter outward into the flat colour.
Unique work, charcoal and acrylic on canvas, 120 × 90 cm (47.2 × 35.4 in). Born in Brazil in 1993 and trained in Visual Arts at the Federal University of Goiás, Ritchelly Oliveira has worked with the human figure since 2012. His work has been exhibited in Goiânia, Berlin, Miami, New York and Los Angeles, including the solo exhibition Fragility at La Brea Studio in 2023, and has appeared in international art publications such as Beautiful Bizarre.
