Cor sobre tela II (Colour on Canvas II) is a tondo built on extreme contrast: a figure drawn almost entirely in black, with only the eyes, the line of the lips and a hand at the chest emerging from the darkness, set against a saturated red ground.
In the Cor sobre tela works, Ritchelly Oliveira pushes his portraiture towards near-silhouette. The detail is hidden in the deepest values of the charcoal and reveals itself slowly, so the image changes with the light and with the time spent in front of it.
Unique work, charcoal and acrylic on canvas, 100 × 100 cm (39.4 × 39.4 in). Born in Brazil in 1993 and trained in Visual Arts at the Federal University of Goiás, Ritchelly Oliveira has worked with the human figure since 2012. His work has been exhibited in Goiânia, Berlin, Miami, New York and Los Angeles, including the solo exhibition Fragility at La Brea Studio in 2023, and has appeared in international art publications such as Beautiful Bizarre.
