NYC Street Splash, 2021 is an original framed spray painting on canvas by Bronx graffiti pioneer SEEN (Richard Mirando).
The composition develops around the central portrait of a classic aerosol can, depicted with sculptural volume in front of a layered grey and white brick ground. The surface incorporates stencilled “NYC 1980” markings and multi-colored overspray splashes, replicating decades of urban wall accumulation. Sweeping across the can in a continuous line is SEEN’s iconic black tag, made in a single fluid motion.
This deliberate interplay sets the patient construction of the textured urban wall against the immediate speed of the street tag. Having painted New York subway trains since 1973 with the United Artists crew, SEEN’s historical trajectory is documented in the book Subway Art and the film Style Wars.
