Gabriela Lukschal
Gabriela Lukschal is a Brazilian multidisciplinary visual artist from Minas Gerais whose relationship with painting began in childhood as a means of expression and emotional exploration. Alongside her artistic practice, she also worked as an international model, an experience that added another dimension to her interest in human expression and identity. Her work has been shown at Tilsitt Gallery in Porto, at Litt Gallery in São Paulo in the exhibition “Vigor Fluído,” and in the group exhibition “Mulheres à Beira de um Ataque de Artes” at the Centro Cultural dos Correios in Rio de Janeiro. Her practice is centered mainly on acrylic painting on canvas and blends realism with surrealism, creating dreamlike, symbol-rich compositions in which architecture, memory, pop culture and imaginative figures coexist.
Among the works and series documented in her portfolio are Sogno (2021), O Inefável (2021), Toy Room, Cuckoo and Sky Garden from The Room series (2022), Alegoria do Triunfo (2023), and the A Pele que Habito works including Sussurrus Cordis, À Flor da Pele, Criatividade, Intuição, Inocência, Meus Espinhos, Ilusão and Desilusão (2023). Lukschal describes an imaginary universe influenced by traditional Japanese painting, science fiction, anime, pop culture, art history and contemporary illustration. She aims to create images that feel as though they come from a dream or subconscious memory, using a language she describes as ambiguous, dense, fantastic, natural and organic. In her personalized interview-based series, she meets the buyer, extracts significant details from conversation and transforms them into surreal, narrative paintings; unique antique frames are selected and sometimes artistically altered so that they become part of the artwork itself.
