Pau Escat
Pau Escat is a Spanish abstract artist born in Barcelona in 1984, where he lives and works. He developed an early interest in creativity, later studying in the United States and training as a jeweller, a field that became an important source of visual and material inspiration. His familiarity with precious stones, reflective surfaces and changing light informed a practice that combines painterly abstraction with a strong sensitivity to material, texture and luminosity. He has presented solo and group exhibitions in Barcelona and other Spanish contexts, including art fairs and cultural events.
Escat’s work explores abstract landscapes, the reflection of light, silence, memory and the passage of time. He often works with recovered cotton and linen fabrics, natural pigments, inks, acrylics, plaster, aerosol paint and metallic or gold-leaf elements. His compositions move between natural reference and abstraction, using layered surfaces and atmospheric colour to suggest landscapes felt through emotion rather than represented literally. Jewellery and nature are recurring reference points, especially the way light transforms materials and the way time alters surfaces. Works such as the Untitled series and Lima I exemplify this atmospheric, materially rich approach, and current market listings describe his works as unique paintings rather than editions.
