Lima I

Lima I (2021) is an original mixed-media abstract landscape painting on cotton canvas by Spanish contemporary artist Pau Escat.

Across the upper portion of the composition, atmospheric layers of green, blue, pink, violet, and lime merge into continuous visual movement, evoking light and natural transition. Below, a broad expanse of gold introduces a contrasting mineral presence, characterized by visible brushwork, accumulated paint, and areas of pronounced relief.

The work’s relationship with nature is underscored by a handwritten note on the reverse, where Escat connects Lima I with awakening, joy, and the harmonious exuberance of a jungle in motion. Rather than a literal representation, the composition translates landscape into pure color, atmosphere, texture, and light.

Informed by Escat’s foundational training as a jeweller, the reflective gold surface actively changes according to the room’s ambient light and the viewer’s perspective—shifting from a rich, muted ochre to a luminous, reflective line throughout the day.
