Untitled (2022)

Untitled, 2022 is an original large-scale abstract painting on cotton canvas by Spanish contemporary artist Pau Escat.

The horizontal composition is organized around two complementary fields: an expansive, contemplative pale blue field above and a tactile gold passage extending across the lower section of the canvas. Subtle tonal gradations, underlying gestures, and visible brushwork animate the atmospheric blue expanse, while the gold ground develops a pronounced material texture characterized by ridges, accumulated medium, and rich physical relief.

Their irregular horizon evokes open landscape and shifting atmospheric phenomena without literal description. Drawing directly from Escat’s background as a trained jeweller, the metallic lower field actively responds to changing ambient light and viewing angles, transitioning from deep matte ochre tones to a luminous reflective presence throughout the day.
